We are so thankful that you are studying in the capital and largest city of Bulgaria. Home to over 16 universities spread throughout the city, Sofia offers a vibrant academic and cultural environment. Sofia is located at the foot of the mountains with access to hikes, ski slopes, and much more. We have listed a few recommendations of places to visit, eat, drink, and have fun. 

 

Public Transport:

To purchase a ticket, you can either visit one of the counters located throughout the city or simply use your contactless card to get started. All of these options are user-friendly and easily accessible across the city.

  • Metro

Exiting from the Airport:

  • Terminal 1- exit and outside the front catch on bus 84 or 184 to take you into the centre. 

  • Terminal 2- Exit and turn left to reach the Metro. Take the M4 line and get off at either 'Serdica' or 'NDK' to reach the city center.

Traveling outside Sofia:

  • Bus- The buses across the city take you in and around the city of Sofia. To go beyond, Sofia book online to avoid disppointment or book in-person at the Central Bus Station.

  • Train- You can access different cities across Bulgaria and beyond by getting a train from the Central Railway Station. 

  • Airport- You can fly across to Varna from Sofia or various cities across Europe.

There is so much to see and do, here are a few: 

Our recommendation is take a Free Sofia Tour led in English or Spanish. This tour covers Sofia's famous landmarks available everyday meeting at Sofia City Court (Palace of Justice) at 11am and 2pm.

Emergency:

In case of an emergency dial 112, there will be English-speaking operatos available. Ambulances are available but can take a long time. A taxi might be a faster mode of transport to access the hospitals. Most staff members speak English, but feel free to bring a Bulgarian-speaking friend along just in case!

Christian Union/ IConnect Sofia:

We have one International group which consists of bible studies and community events led in English held in different locations. If you are fluent in Bulgarian, there are a variety of bible study groups meeting throughout the week. Please have a look on the other pages on our website for more details.

Churches:

We warmly invite you to find your home at a local Church in Sofia. A church offers a place to belong, hear God’s Word, worship, build community, and so much more. The city is home to many churches, most of which hold prayers, worship, and sermons in Bulgarian. Below, you’ll find a list of churches that offer services in English or a combination of both languages.
