Mark Drama in Varna and Plovdiv
The event, which we organized for the first time in Bulgaria in the autumn of 2023, is already writing its history. "Mark Drama" took place in 2 more cities in our country with two new teams of students and youth. The purpose of the theatrical production is to create a partnership between BCSU and the churches in Bulgaria by revealing the gospel in a new, impactful way that uses the tools of art to portray the greatness of the life and work of Christ.
The dramatization of Mark's Gospel in Varna was attended by a total of about 170 people, most of whom were invited by the cast and members of the church. On the second night, the gospel came alive in front of an audience of 120 people in a room with 60 chairs! And there were about 450 people at the three performances in Plovdiv. "Mark Drama" is theatre without props or effects that lasts 90 minutes and brings the audience to tears each time through the power of God's living word.
Here is what Martin, who played the role of Jesus in Plovdiv, shares with us: "When you put the words of Jesus Christ in your heart, you cannot stay the same. That's what I experienced. Those nearly two months of preparation for the Mark drama changed my life. My prayer life blossomed and my intimacy with God multiplied. I hadn't studied the Word in that way before and I hadn't even fasted, that changed. Praise God, this trial was a great blessing. During the last week ( the week of the rehearsals) I was on the verge of getting sick every day and not being able to speak. My throat was on a string every day. God was supplying strength and enough health each day to lead me in prayer over and over again. I realized how impossible it is to be His instruments without His support. Minutes before the last performance I was hoarse, with a scratchy throat. God supplied me with a voice for the entire performance. No pain and no problems in the voice! When you step into a role it naturally spills over into your life, as much as you allow it of course. Well, how much more wonderful than allowing the words of Jesus to flow into your daily life? Do we realize what Christ actually did for us, what he endured for us? How he stood on the cross and bore all that shame and all that weight. For our sake. May we appreciate His sacrifice with fear, repentance, reverence and love for Him. Well, how much more wonderful than letting the words of Jesus into your daily life? May God build us up in such a way that we discover what it means to give what is God's to God!"
Teams and organizers continue to share testimonies of people who have begun reading Mark's Gospel, understanding for the first time what is celebrated at Easter, and have attended a church service. Praise God!
